I chose a poem checked for copyright is was older than 50 years.
I then went through all the sizes of Parallel pens and wrote out roughly the poem many times. These lines of poem I later cut up into lines and used them to fit inside of a heart shape. This will give me an idea of how this piece would fit together. I will be using a 1.5 Brause nib to perfect my calligraphy. Also I used black Gouache for this.
I also love to use the tip of a brush to write with and used a no3 Raphael brush to create my background. Pictures included. I used black card cut out in a heart shape and placed this in the middle of the page. I wrote a word repeating it across the page covering the black heart and continued this across and down the page.
Once completed I removed the black card to reveal a white space in the shape of a heart with writing all around it and I used Indigo Gouache for this.
I used layout paper A3 size pad and Zeta paper for all my roughs purchased from Gordon Harris.
I also used black card to cut out two L shapes to be able to place around my work to view what it would look like in a frame.
Once I have reached what I want, then I will do all this work etc. on good quality paper.
I hope to complete two similar pieces for the exhibition.

Dale
