About the Society

The New Zealand Calligraphers has been an organisation since the early 1990’s.
The society meets monthly at a central location in Auckland, conducts regular workshops in calligraphy and complementary arts, organises exhibitions, and generally supports and promotes calligraphy and excellence in lettering.

The New Zealand Calligrapher’s members include professional lettering artists, commercial calligraphers, illustrators and designers, tutors and hobbyists and their interests range from the most traditional types of calligraphy, to contemporary and experimental forms.

We invite you to browse this site – which contains information about our society, membership, current events, workshops and other relevant topics – and to consider joining the New Zealand Calligraphers.

Monthly Meetings

Where possible members are encouraged to attend the Society’s monthly meetings. Meetings and workshops are held on the first Sunday of each month to allow members outside of Auckland to join in. Meetings are a social, friendly affair and usually feature guest speakers or a workshop.

Sunday 1st July

We are going to attempt a collaborative piece on WINTER.

Paper will be provided
Bring along pens and inks, coloured pencils, paints, stencils, images  – anything that will help you decorate eight 12 x 16cm pages with the letters W  I. N. T. E. R. 20.18.  We aren’t aiming for perfection, you will be pleasantly surprised how effective a combined work can be.

Don’t  be put off, there will be scripts, images and borders available to give you ideas! Look forward to seeing you this weekend.

Our next monthly meeting is this Sunday 1st July.

WHERE: Gifford Gallery, 27a Poronui St, Mt Eden
DATE: Sunday 10th June
